Question For the Roman Catholic

If authority of the Roman Catholic church is so important, then why did the Bereans in Acts 17:11 not just subject themselves to that apostolic authority instead of checking what Paul said against Scripture – and Paul praised them for it?

Acts 17:11 (NASB) Now these were more noble-minded than those in Thessalonica, for they received the word with great eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see whether these things were so.

The Sinner Can Change And Be Saved! We Are All Sinners!

Immoral behavior can be forgiven! It does not matter if one states that they were born one way or another, all is forgiven if you change your ways! Do not love your sin.

1 Corinthians 6: 9-11 (NASB)

9 Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, 10 nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 Such were some of you, but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God.

Note that the Apostle Paul said, “11 Such were some of you, but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God.” He is speaking to the repentant sinner.

1 Corinthians 6: 12-20 (NASB)

12 All things are lawful for me, but not all things are profitable. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be mastered by anything. 13 Food is for the stomach and the stomach is for food, but God will do away with both of them. Yet the body is not for immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord is for the body. 14 Now God has not only raised the Lord, but will also raise us up through His power. 15 Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take away the members of Christ and make them members of a prostitute? May it never be! 16 Or do you not know that the one who joins himself to a prostitute is one body with her? For He says, “The two shall become one flesh.” 17 But the one who joins himself to the Lord is one spirit with Him. 18 Flee immorality. Every other sin that a man commits is outside the body, but the immoral man sins against his own body. 19 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? 20 For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body.

Repent and sin no more. This scripture is hard to swallow however it shows we are all sinners in need of a savior. We are all in a fallen world. I love you all as Jesus does!

Evidence For The Resurrection: Pt 1

When I get angry comments from unbelievers, it spurs me on! It indicates to me areas that need addressing and light shed into the darkness. Although the fool says there is no God, it still shows me the areas of evangelism that is necessary for the modern Christian.

Recently I was sent a comment from a seemingly militant atheist; He or she commented that only Paul wrote about the witnesses to the bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ. It was an interesting take on the scripture, and it led me to write this series of articles.

I suppose the writer of that comment was suggesting that the apostle Paul was a liar. Well, let’s look into the scripture and come to a conclusion.

Read 1 Corinthians 15: 3-8 (NASB)

Now I make known to you, brethren, the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received, in which also you stand, 2 by which also you are saved, if you hold fast the word which I preached to you, unless you believed in vain.
3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4 and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,5 and that He appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve. 6 After that He appeared to more than five hundred brethren at one time, most of whom remain until now, but some have fallen asleep; 7 then He appeared to James, then to all the apostles; 8 and last of all, as to one untimely born, He appeared to me also. 9 For I am the least of the apostles, and not fit to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God.

Were the words of the apostle Paul wrote here lies or at best an embellishment? No. You see, Paul cites 14 eyewitnesses by name. Cephas (Peter), James and the 12 apostles and Paul himself. With Paul naming the eyewitnesses to the Corinthians! If the Corinthians doubted the words written by Paul, the Corinthian readers would certainly call him out on it! I also would suggest that Paul wrote that there was also some 500 other witnesses (who knows maybe more?) someone would have exposed the lie.

Let’s suppose Paul was fabricating his testimony, do you think he would have gone to the measures of actually naming the eyewitnesses? He would have lost any credibility with the Corinthians. Then why would he write such a hoax? It does not make sense!

Please pray for the unbelievers to see and believe the truth!

Psalm 25:10 (NASB)
All the paths of the LORD are loving kindness and truth
To those who keep His covenant and His testimonies.

Is It True That The Apostle Paul Was A Married Man?

As found in scripture it seems quite evident that Paul was a widower. As a member of the Sanhedrin (before his conversion), and as a requirement to vote in the prosecution of Christians he must have been married, as most theologians agree;

Acts 26: 9-11 (NASB)
“So then, I thought to myself that I had to do many things hostile to the name of Jesus of Nazareth. 10 And this is just what I did in Jerusalem; not only did I lock up many of the saints in prisons, having received authority from the chief priests, but also when they were being put to death I cast my vote against them. 11 And as I punished them often in all the synagogues, I tried to force them to blaspheme; and being furiously enraged at them, I kept pursuing them even to foreign cities.

His wife subsequently must have died as it is written in scripture;

1 Corinthians 7: 8 (NASB)
But I say to the unmarried and to widows that it is good for them if they remain even as I.

What Are The “Spiritual Gifts” and Do We Still Have Them?

Spiritual Gifts are the gifts given to a member of the Body of Christ and would include the gifts of; teaching, leadership, prophecy, healing and preaching as well as a few more. The Apostle Paul said told us that we must exercise that gift that you have been given. 1 Corinthians 12: 7-11;

7 Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. 8 To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, 10 to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues. 11 All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he distributes them to each one, just as he determines.

You may not know what your “gift” is and it may take a lot of living and life experiences to determine your gift. There are two perspectives with the belief or non-belief of having these said gifts;

The Argument AGAINST Spiritual Gifts:

We don’t need the gifts anymore as the main point of having gifts was that they were instrumental building blocks in the construction of the body of Christ.

The argument SUPPORTING the continuation of the Spiritual Gifts:
We still require the gifts of administration, teaching and leadership to maintain the body of Christ for its perpetuation.

Tongue Speaking:

This seems to be the gift that is most controversial not only with the unbeliever but also the believer. Speaking in tongues is also known as “speaking an unknown language” and is only found in the New Testament. Some of the controversy is sparked as some believe you are required to speak in tongues as a sign of Salvation, this is not true. It is not true as gifts are “spread out” among believers and no one gift is any more important than another. Read 1 Corinthians 12: 27-31

27 Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it. 28 And God has placed in the church first of all apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healing, of helping, of guidance, and of different kinds of tongues. 29 Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles? 30 Do all have gifts of healing? Do all speak in tongues? Do all interpret? 31 Now eagerly desire the greater gifts.

I believe that we still have the gifts. Whatever gift you believe you have, and it is likely the thing you do best, exercise that gift and pray for guidance to exercise that gift to Glorify God! As all we do is from Him and for Him!

The Lords Supper and the Error of “Transubstantiation”

By definition the word “Transubstantiation” is: the changing of the elements of the bread and wine, when they are consecrated in the Eucharist, into the body and blood of Christ. This is a doctrine of the Roman Catholic Church.

The Apostle Paul corrects this “abuse” in scripture, read 1 Corinthians 11: 23-29
.
23 For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, 24 and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, “This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.” 25 In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.” 26 For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.
27 So then, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord. 28 Everyone ought to examine themselves before they eat of the bread and drink from the cup. 29 For those who eat and drink without discerning the body of Christ eat and drink judgment on themselves.

The Roman Church states:
Paragraph 1376 of the Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC):

“Because Christ our Redeemer said that it was truly his body that he was offering under the species of bread, it has always been the conviction of the Church of God, and this holy Council now declares again, that by the consecration of the bread and wine there takes place a change of the whole substance of the bread into the substance of the body of Christ our Lord and of the whole substance of the wine into the substance of his blood. This change the holy Catholic Church has fittingly and properly called transubstantiation (CCC, 1376).

The disciples never thought that Jesus literally meant that the bread was has actual body. How could they when at the last supper Jesus said: Matthew 26: 26-29:
26 While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is my body.”

27 Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. 28 This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. 29 I tell you, I will not drink from this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.”

Are we to believe that the disciples who can plainly see that Jesus sitting with them would think that the bread he was breaking was his actual body and his blood? Are we to believe that Jesus was speaking of cannibalism?

The Levitical Laws were still in effect since the new covenant was yet to be established and this was pre-crucifixion, see Lev. 17:14:

“For as for the life of all flesh, its blood is identified with its life. Therefore I said to the sons of Israel, You are not to eat the blood of any flesh, for the life of all flesh is its blood; whoever eats it shall be cut off,”

This is important to remember as the Roman Catholic Church teaches that the bread and wine change into actual flesh and blood!

We must remember the incredible sacrifice our Lord Jesus made on the cross. The Roman Catholic Church maintains this sacrament as part of the “works” toward Salvation. Please pray that the Roman Catholic follower finally recognizes that participation in this unbiblical ritual is committed over and over again. Christ died once on the cross and was resurrected and that was sufficient. This ritual is nothing more than Christ’s re-sacrifice declaring that Jesus’ crucifixion was not enough and that equals heresy!

Why We Should Not Rejoice in the New Pope!

Perhaps before we rejoice on the “election” of a new pope we should take in consideration what the Apostle Paul wrote in Galatians 1: 6-17

6 I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you to live in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel— 7 which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ. 8 But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let them be under God’s curse! 9 As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let them be under God’s curse!

10 Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.

11 I want you to know, brothers and sisters, that the gospel I preached is not of human origin. 12 I did not receive it from any man, nor was I taught it; rather, I received it by revelation from Jesus Christ.

13 For you have heard of my previous way of life in Judaism, how intensely I persecuted the church of God and tried to destroy it. 14 I was advancing in Judaism beyond many of my own age among my people and was extremely zealous for the traditions of my fathers. 15 But when God, who set me apart from my mother’s womb and called me by his grace, was pleased 16 to reveal his Son in me so that I might preach him among the Gentiles, my immediate response was not to consult any human being. 17 I did not go up to Jerusalem to see those who were apostles before I was, but I went into Arabia. Later I returned to Damascus.

Rome does not preach the correct Gospel. It is a false Gospel teaching us we cannot be saved without “works”! This denies what God is telling us. We are saved by “Grace”.

Apparently Galatians and Romans were written as filler? Do you think the Gospel is pared down to two sentences? We must read the scriptures in their entirety.

Got it off my chest! However I cannot stress this enough…WE MUST PRAY FOR THE ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH TO REPENT! I am certain that most people reading this will say I am coming across as judgmental and divisive, and I would suggest that I am. I do not want to see a stream of Roman Catholic followers going to hell. How “unloving” would that be? AMEN!

God Bless
